SUMMER IS HERE AND THE FESTIVE SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. OPPORTUNISTIC CRIMINALS HAVE NO KE DEZEMBA CHILL. CHECK OUT THESE TIPS RIGHT AWAY AND PREVENT THEM FROM RUINING YOUR HOLIDAY!
CARRY CASH SAFELY
- Never make your bank visits public, even to people close to you.
- Arrange for the club’s pay-out to be electronically transferred into each club member’s personal account or accounts of their choice.
Watch out for spoof e-commerce sites advertising #BlackFriday specials. Criminals only need to change one digit of a web address to create a spoof website and steal your data.
Don’t fall for offers that are available at a very low price. If it seems to be too good to be true, it usually is.
MOBILE PHONE SNATCHING FRAUD
If your mobile device is lost or stolen notify your Bank immediately to freeze your banking profile and prevent the perpetrators from using your banking app. In addition, contact your mobile service provider to block/stop your SIM card and handset to prevent criminals from getting any One Time PINs for fraudulent transactions.
To prevent your ID being used to commit fraud if it is ever lost or stolen, alert the SA Fraud Prevention Service immediately on 0860 101 248 or at www.safps.org.za.
Do not use a set routine, like time of the day or day of the week to visit your Bank or ATM to deposit or withdraw funds. To keep both your card and PIN safe, don't let anyone stand too close to you, and cover your hand when typing in your PIN.
